A wrap on the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Singapore 2025, in partnership with Singapore Maritime Week (SMW):
Mr. Costas Delaportas, our President & CEO, shared his insights at the TradeWinds panel: THE SHIPOWNER VIEW, including:
– “Phasing out 25-year-old vessels is a practical step towards reducing emissions and improving the market.”
– “Isn’t it ironic to see a dual-engine, newly-built vessel next to an overaged one at the same port? The latter emits 3-4 times more CO2. It’s unbelievable that ’97 vessels are still trading.”
– “In shipping, opportunities always emerge during disruptions.”
– “Long-term period fixings with reputable charterers can assist with steady revenues & a strong balance sheet during unstable market.”
– “We prioritize the safety of the crew and vessels over excessive profitability – avoiding conflict areas is key.”
Joined by co-panelists Mr. Constantin S. Baack, of MPC Container Ships ASA, Mr. Laurence Odfjell, of Odfjell SE, Mr. Jotaro Tamura, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. Asia Oceania, Mr. Erik Hånell, Stena Bulk, and moderated by Mr. Jonathan Boonzaier, the discussion focused on profitability in the ongoing unstable commercial landscape.
A big thank you to Alex Tyrer for flawlessly organizing the event!
