Medway Shipping has placed an order with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Zhoushan (China) for a Type 64 bulk carrier.= April-June 2025, the first order placed with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.
Greek shipowner Medway Shipping has ordered one 64,000 DWT (Type 64) bulk carrier from Tsuneishi Shipbuilding’s Zhoushan Shipyard (China).
The new vessel is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2025.
Medway evaluated Tsuneishi’s Type 64 Ultramax as highly fuel-efficient and of excellent eco-design.
This is the first time Medway Shipping has ordered a new ship to Tsuneishi.
Medway Shipping has a holding company, Costas Bulk, in Athens, Greece, and a ship management company, Medway Shipping & Trading (MST), with chartering bases in Singapore and Dubai.
Costas Bulk’s core fleet consisted of five company-owned vessels and five bareboat vessels as of May of this year. These include one Kamsamax, six Ultramaxes, two Supramaxes, and one Handysize.
In addition, a total of 16 Kamsamax, Supramax, and Handysize vessels, mainly Japanese-built vessels owned by Japanese shipowners, have been chartered for medium- to long-term use.
Medway has ordered Handy bulkers from Japanese shipyards Imabari Shipbuilding, Shin Kurushima Dockyard, and Namura Shipbuilding, but placed its first order with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding this time.
In addition to the one new vessel ordered from Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, Meadway Shipping has four new Namura vessels in its new shipbuilding program.
The HIGH BULK 40E is a new design developed by Namura Shipbuilding in collaboration with Hakodate Dockyard, a group company.
According to Medway, Namura’s four vessels will be delivered between April and June 2024 for the first vessel and between July and September 2024 for the second vessel. The third and fourth vessels ordered this time are scheduled for delivery between October and December 2024.
